Shimelle's Cropping Weekend Challenge #9

Will blog more; I just need to upload right now.  This challenge during Shimelle's  Cropping Weekend was to use an outdated challenge.  I chose Shimelle's & Two Pea's 4x6 Photo Love from last year; specifically using four 4x6 pics on one layout.  There is a picture behind the title block. 

Shimelle's Cropping Weekend, Challenge #4; TWELVE: Things

I have completed 3 of the 6 challenges issued on Shimelle's blog site during her Cropping Weekend.  Yes, I have gone out of order.  I have skipped Challenge 3 and completed Challenge 4, which is scrap with the colors grey and yellow, but then add one additional color of your choice.  I chose RED, which is my favorite color.  I used American Crafts "Chaps" grey paper and some left over yellow gingham pattern paper.  The yellow w/ red swirl is BoBunny and JBS journal cards. I created the red scallop with Studio Calico red spray mist onto a Pink Paislee mistable border. The big yellow flower with red center & scallop heart are from Sassafras.

 I also combined one of the monthly topics, things, from Stacy Julian's TWELVE class at Big Picture Classes into the challenge. 
I chose to scrap my purse, which I have retired after 22 years!  I received my blue w/ brown trim Dooney & Burke bag purse when I was a senior in high school.  I have used it faithfully, with a few daliances throughout the years.  My faithful purse had come into scrutiny by family and friends.  In fact, my mother had purchased me a Fossil purse at Christmas, which I encouraged her to return.  But look at all it holds:  my iPAD, phone, lipstick holder, notebook, sun glasses, keys, notes and so much more!

We did send it back to Dooney & Burke due to a stain on it and they sent me a new or refurbished purse.  Unfortunately, they do not participate in this program any more.  In February/March of 2012, I retired the purse after my friend's mother GAVE me a new Dooney & Burke bag purse, just opposite colors (brown with blue trim) because she couldn't stand to look at my faithful purse any longer.  My mother was sooo excited.  And yes, everyone commented on my new purse stating they were so happy I had a new one!  So here's my tribute to my faithful purse.

Shimelle's Croping Weekend Challenge #2; TWELVE Family Stories

Shimelle Laine is hosting an on-line cropping weekend with several different challenges and on-line community discussions regarding several scrapbooking dilemnas!  I am having a blast!  Challenge #2 was to use 3+ paper collections on a single layout.  And of course, I wanted to scrap one of my topics from my TWELVE class at Big Picture Classes.  I chose "Family Stories" And I did it!

 I used K&Co. "Blue & Yellow" line from 2003 (? I think) Yes, that is the name on the back of the coordinating papers.  This is the blue square with alphabet letters on it. This is the NEVER ENDING paper collection.  I must have bought 5 sheets of each design, which had 25 paper designs, in the collection line. So, I thought is was very fitting that my oldest paper sits on top of my newest purchase of Heidi Swapp's No Limits pattern paper.  I used 2 sheets from this paper collection, the white lined background sheet and the orange paper with the circles.  Finally, I used a paper from Flair Design, family collection.  This green strip has the word "Father" written in different languages and/or forms of the word on it.  I do believe Flair Design is no longer in business.  I absolutely loved this company.  They put example layouts on the back of each paper.  I also used Love, Elsie big chunky letters complimented with Tiny Alphas by Cosmo Cricket.  I am absolutely thrilled to use up some of my oldest stash!  Thanks Shimelle!

The family story is one that reoccurs daily.  My husband will walk into the house filthy, exhausted, hot and hungry.  (Look at the picture of my husband in the top left.)  The first words out of my 9 year old son's mouth are, "Daddy! Daddy, will you play with me?".  And everyday, my husband and I chuckle wearily and everyday Daddy plays with his son.  They will go back outside into the hot sun to play catch, bow practice or come into my scrap room and sit on the steps, playing games on the iPOD or just have a tickle fight!  Daddy "hearts" You!

Take Twelve: April: Places in Leland: Shimelle's Challenge 1

Once again, I have combined several of my classes + challenges into one layout.  I have taken twelve pictures of places in Leland, MS, my now hometown on the twelfth day of April. I chose to incorporate Shimelle's weekend crop, Challenge 1, scraplifting a layout by Jaime Warren.  Go here to view her wonderful layouts.  I have included several views of my layout to show that I truly took twelve pictures.  I chose places in Leland, because one of the topics in Stacy Julian's class, TWELVE, at big picture classes is "places".

So after school, on Thursday, April 12, 2012, my son and I drove around our 4,500 bed community of Leland, MS and I took pictures of places that had meaning to me and my family.  The first picture is of picturesque Deer Creek, while standing on the Jim Henson Rainbow Connection bridge, hence the green guard rail.  Deer Creek is the longest natural curving creek in North America according to the Levee Board.  If you flip the picture up, it reveals the next two pictures of the total 12.

The second picture is of our home with our faithful Bloodhound, Daisy, sitting century. Our home sits on the bank of Deer Creek.  The third picture is of the Jim Henson Boyhood Exhibit; The Birthplace of Kermit the Frog.















The fourth picture is of Lillo's Restaurant.  It is a family owned Italian food restaurant with authentic Florence style pizzas, this a semi-tradition on Sunday night.  The fifth picture is of Stop N Shop, our little local grocery store, which has the best cuts of meat in the delta!

The sixth picture is the front doors of Fratesi Grocery, a family owned gas station/grocery store which serves fabulous po-boys, crawfish, sells bait, beer and gas.  The original one-stop shopping center.  This is certainly a favorite lunch hang out on Saturday's.  The next picture is of one of our cotton fields.  It is in the planting stage.  This cotton field plus many more is one of daily places my husband goes to work.  The fields are a part of our being.








The eighth picture is a picture of the first home where Chet & I lived, in fact 4 out of the 5 siblings lived in this house at some point.  This is a 1,200sq ft. (if that) Jim Walter pre-made house.  It was actually Pat & Chester's first home, where they raised 5 children.  It wasn't until the oldest daughter was a senior in high school that they moved into the "Big House", which is the next picture.  "The big house", which I lovingly refer to it, is where we spend every Sunday afternoon with Chet's sisters and brother, their children and his mother for dinner and play time.  This is also where my husband starts his day, with a cup of milk/coffee (sugared milk with a little coffee).

The next picture is of the original Bank of Leland.  It is no longer a bank.  It is now city hall.  The inside is gorgeous with wood panel and a huge walk in vault.  When I was just starting to date Chet in 1993, it was still the Bank of Leland and across the street was Joe Turner Hardware, across the intersection was Azlin Drugstore and Dean Land Planting company.  Only Dean Land Planting company still resides in this intersection.

The next picture is of Lake Monochnoch.  A small lake, which sits behinds Lillo's Restaurant and borders several homes.  Chet and Walker have gone fishing many a day in this lake.



 The last picture is of our church, St. James Catholic Church, where currently Fr. Charles Buccantini is the parish priest.  It is a picturesque community church with red brick and a white steeple.  This is where we go every Sunday to worship and thank the Lord for all of our blessings. This is where Walker was baptized and received his First Reconciliation and First Communion.

 

There are many other buildings/places which I could take pictures, but these 12 hold the most memories for me.  Here is to April 12, 2012, which happens to be my brother's birthday.

I plan to print this journaling out, fold it up and adhere to the orange mat behind the pictures.  I have used Heidi Swapp's new color magic paper and No Limits paper. The green flowers are Prima Flowers.  The black star border strip is Hometown Summer by Pink Paislee and Sassafras hearts and yellow flower. Amy Tangerine black letters were used to spell Leland.  I also used Memory Book "Flip pockets".  I have had these forever and I always forget about them, but I truly like that I got 12 protected photos on one page.

The Suit: Shimelle's Sketch of the Week

Here is my take on Shimelle Laine's Sketch of the Week!  I had a lot of fun with this sketch!  This is a picture of Walker during his First Holy Communion.  The journal tag talks about his excitement over his new suit.  "Walker was so proud of his First Communion suit.  I took off work and picked him up from after school early.  We went to "Lookin' Good" to purchase his new suit.  He tried on this 3 piece black suit and a navy side pin strip suit. He chose the black suit with black square toed shoes and a red tie!  He hasn't been this excited about clothes since he was 3 1/2 and he stomped up the JA Ball line in his new white leather high ankle shoes!"  When we picked up the suit, he immediately tried the entire thing on for Chet!  Excitement was written all over his face!  Wonderful memory!

LOAD: Day 2 Cave of the Winds

     
 We were challenged to scrap a picture of a time when we "bellied" laughed.  This was certainly at "Cave of the Winds" at Niagara Falls.  We took an elevator down several "floors" down the cliff side to slowly (or race it Walker style) make your way back up the cliff under the American Falls.  At several levels there were observation decks, ending on the "Hurricane Deck", where you had gale force winds, drenched by water from the American Falls!  It was fabulous!  Walker was so excited!  He ran from deck to deck with Maddie, our tour guide's daughter, pulling us along!  the picture inset in the upper left corner is Walker & Maddie on the Hurricane deck!   What fun we had!  We certainly bellied laughed the entire trip!!!!  And got a little wet!  This picture is of all four of us at the end!  Forget the rain coats! They didn't work! The layout is based on Shimelle Laine's sketch July 2011.

Half Page Sketch

As one of Shimelle's Challenges for her on-line crop weekend. She asked us to only scrap on 1/2 of the page! The pieces for this layout just came together ASAP!

I was actually at a weekend crop with my friend when I designed this page. It is her birthday we celebrated in the pictures (which I had on hand to scrap). She showed me some patterned paper with stick figure girls holding hands with words "best friends" printed over the entire sheet of paper.
In that fun, silly mocking tone, my friend said, "Look, I got this paper just for us!"

I, the ever "up to date" on texting accronyms (ha), replied, "Aww..yes, you are my BBF!" We both stared at each other with a puzzled look, "BBF's isn't right! Silly! It's BFFs, Best Friends Forever!
Then at the same time we started laughing and stated, "Big Bosom Friends! Yes! That is us!!"

So the page was born. A picture of us at her birthday party, where we were making fun of our large bosoms, papers of hot pink, lime green and black and some fun embellishments made this page easy to make! What fun!

Shimelle's Sketch of the Week

Shimelle Lane posts a weekly sketch on her blog . This past week she included the sketch as part of her weekend crop challenges. It was the perfect sketch to help me get all those 380 pictures I took of our trip to the Niagra Falls area! Ms. Shimelle based her sketch on the design of a postcard! I used "travel" style pages on a creme cardstock. I also used a postage stamp journal stamp on the lower left corner along with a sticker stamp top left above the picture and premade chipboard stamp to the right of the picture. Well here is my take on her sketch!
